The Shopify integration links your store to Bonx both ways. When Bonx feeds the catalogue, it remains the owner of the product data it pushes to Shopify. Marketing visuals are managed in Shopify, then imported into Bonx.

Authentication: Admin API token

You generate an Admin access token in Shopify and paste it into Bonx, along with the shop domain and the API version. See authentication methods.

Shopify app permissions

Grant the custom app the access scopes matching what you sync. A missing scope shows up as an error on the corresponding screen (for example, the sales channel list on the article’s Integration tab cannot load without read_publications).

Synced data

Business behaviour

  • Article export is chosen article by article. A toggle on the article record decides whether it goes to Shopify, and on which sales channels it is published.
  • Two Shopify notions must not be confused: sales channels publish a product, locations hold stock. Shopify locations map to your Bonx stock locations.
  • Stock sync is enabled explicitly. Once on, Bonx pushes the available quantity; a failure at that step does not cancel the article export, it is retried on the next cycle.
  • Products deleted on Shopify are reconciled once a day, so your Bonx catalogue does not keep ghost references.
  • Orders inherit the store’s tax regime (tax-inclusive or exclusive prices) and the order’s origin location.

Define ownership of product data

When Bonx feeds the Shopify catalogue, Bonx remains the system of record for product master data. Names, references, variant structure and prices are managed in Bonx, then pushed to Shopify. Product visuals are marketing assets tied to the presentation of the storefront. They are therefore managed in Shopify, close to the sales channel, then imported into Bonx.
Product data: Bonx → Shopify. Product visuals: Shopify → Bonx. Bonx owns product master data; Shopify owns marketing media.

What each tool manages

Bonx does not create, replace, delete or reorder Shopify media. A visual added directly in Bonx is therefore not exported to Shopify. In Shopify, you separately manage:
  • the product’s shared gallery;
  • images, videos and 3D models;
  • media order;
  • the product’s featured media;
  • the image assigned to each variant.
During the next import, Bonx retrieves the product images from Shopify. The first image in the gallery becomes the main visual in Bonx. For a variant, its assigned Shopify image takes priority; otherwise, Bonx uses the first image in the product gallery. Videos and 3D models remain managed in Shopify.

Add product media

1

Synchronize the article

Create or update the Shopify product from Bonx.
2

Open the product in Shopify

Open the synchronized product in the Shopify admin.
3

Add and arrange media

Add media in the Media section, then drag each item into the required order. See the Shopify documentation for supported formats.
4

Assign images to variants

For a product with variants, select the image to display for each variant in Shopify.
5

Import images into Bonx

During the next sync, Bonx imports the Shopify images and updates the main visual of the relevant articles.
The first item in the Shopify gallery is the product’s featured media. It is the visual used by default in product lists and collections. The storefront theme can apply different behavior, such as showing a second image on hover or the image of the selected variant. Configure these rules in Shopify or in the theme. You can add, delete or reorder media directly in Shopify. A later product-data export from Bonx preserves these changes. The next sync imports the images into Bonx and reflects the featured image and variant assignments defined in Shopify.
If the product is deleted in Shopify and then recreated from Bonx, Shopify creates a new product with an empty gallery. Bonx does not restore media from the deleted product.
