In jewellery, you deposit fine metal with a founder who returns worked pieces. The metal account tracks the fine-metal balance per supplier and per metal (gold, silver, platinum, palladium), always in fine weight (grams of pure metal), never in gross weight. The balance lives on a dedicated stock lot, per supplier and per metal. Every account movement is a movement of that lot, traced and linked to the record that produced it.

Inflows and outflows

The account moves from your records, both ways. The base weight comes from the fineness: base = gross weight × fineness (925‰ for silver, 750‰ for 18-carat gold).
  • Outflow (debit): a receiving of worked pieces consumes the deposited metal. The applied total is base + loss (the founder charges a working loss).
  • Inflow (credit): a shipment of pieces returned to the founder puts metal back on the account. The credited total is base − loss (some founders deduct a loss on returned pieces).
Pieces with no metal weight entered contribute no fine metal: they are flagged on the record rather than silently counted as zero.

Loss rates

Loss rates are configured per supplier, per alloy and per flow:
  • receiving = a surcharge added to the debit,
  • shipment = a deduction removed from the credit.
There is no default and no fallback: an unconfigured pair simply means no loss. A single document can mix several alloys with different rates.

Setup

An administrator installs the extension, which creates the dedicated schema, then configures:
  • the alloys (metal and fineness),
  • the fine-metal article per metal,
  • the eligible suppliers,
  • the stock lot that holds the balance, per supplier and per metal,
  • the loss rates per supplier, alloy and flow.

Day to day

1

Open an eligible record

On a receiving or shipment for a configured founder, the Metal account card shows the per-metal detail: base, loss, total, and the balance before and after.
2

Apply

The lot balance is updated by a stock movement, traced and linked to the record. A record can only be applied once; if the movement fails, it returns to pending and stays replayable.
3

Or ignore

Skip a record that should not touch the account, with a reason. An already-processed record shows its recap.

Manual corrections

Since the balance is a stock lot, you can adjust it directly with a stock correction, without going through a record. This is useful to reconcile the account with a real weighing: you enter either a delta (a weight to add or remove) or an absolute value (force the balance to a given weight). The correction is traced like any stock movement.
The shipment (credit) side is rolling out. The receiving (debit) side is available.
